Postcard from France!

Today I got a nice postcard from France! The postcard shows a painting by the famous French painter Jacques Joseph Tissot, also known as James Tissot. James Tissot was born in 1836 and was famous for painting for French society. The painting, The Circle of the Rue Royale, shows a scene at the balcony of the Hôtel de Coislin overlooking the Place de la Concorde. It was made in 1868 and is currently on display at the musée d'Orsay. Several stamps related to Freemasonry were used. Thanks Thomas!

Postcard from France!

Today I got a great postcard from France! The postcard shows an aerial view of the Basilica of St. Sernin, which is located in Toulouse. It was a former abbey named the Abbey of St. Sernin and it lies on the site of a previous basilica that housed the ody of St. Saturnin (Sernin), who was the first bishop of Toulouse. The abbey itself was made during the 4th century but the current basilica was consecrated in 1180. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks Rafal!

Cover & Postcard & Stamp from France!

Today I got a nice cover with a vintage postcard and a stamp inside from France! The card shows General John J. Pershing doing a salute in 1917 in France. General Pershing, who was also called "Black Jack", was the person who led the American forces in World War I. He was the only general to be promoted to General of the Armies during his own lifetime and was considered a mentor by many of the great generals who succeeded him. The vintage card was issued to French soldiers for correspondence with their family. Thanks Clarou!

Postcard from France!

Today I got a nice postcard from France! The postcard shows a nice view of Pointe du Grouin. It is a rocky headland located in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel. Also seen on the card is Herpin's Lighthouse. On clear days, the islands of Chausey, the Normandy Coast, and even Mont Saint-Michel are visible from the rock. A circular walking path runs around the rocks. The card is an official Postcrossing card, FR-432929. Thanks Marine!

Postcard from France!

Today I got a nice postcard from France! The postcard shows many views of Mandelieu-la Napoule, a commune located on the French Riviera. The commune is located southwest of Cannes. Its most popular landmark is the Château de la Napoule, which is a 14th century castle. The current structure was mostly rebuilt by Henry Clews Jr. since most of the structure was damaged during the French Revolution. The commune covers an area of about 31 square kilometres and has a population of about 21,000 people. Thanks Angelina!

Postcrossing Meet-Up Card from France!

Today I got a nice Postcrossing Meet-Up card from France! The card was sent from the Postcrossing Meet-Up in Chartres, which was held on March 8, 2014. Chartres is a commune in northern France. It has a total area of about 16 square kilometres and has a population of about 40,000 people. It is located on a hill by the Eure River. It is most known for the Cathedral of Chartres, which we can see in one of the views on the card. It is a historic and popular Gothic cathedral and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks Maud!

Today I got a nice postcard from France! The postcard shows multiple scenes of the Canal du Nivernais. First built in 1784, it contributed to the economic development of the department of the Nièvre as a vital communication route. It is currently used for leisure craft, which tourists can board to view many idyllic French countryside scenes of small villages, farmlands, and hamlets. Today I got a cool postcard from France! The postcard shows a map of the whole country, with clear divisions among its departments. There are currently 96 departments in France and 5 departments overseas. The card shows the zip code prefix for each department & it allows you to map out where you send to & receive from France! Postcard from Saint Barthélemy!

Today I got a great postcard from Saint Barthélemy! The postcard was included in the cover sent by Sherona from Saint Martin. Saint Barthélemy is an island located about 35 kilometres away from Saint Martin. It is officially known as the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Barthélemy and it is also a French overseas collectivity. Its population is about 9,000 people. On the card, we see a view of Gustaf III Airport with a small plane making its final approach. The island is a popular getaway among the wealthy individuals and celebrities and it is a popular stop-over and events place for yachts. Thanks Sherona! 


Cover & Postcard from Saint Martin!

Today I got a great cover and postcards from Saint Martin! Saint Martin is an island in the Caribbean, which is divided into two parts. One part is French, where the cover and postcards were sent from, and the other is Dutch, which is often called Sint Maarten. The French side is an overseas collectivity of France. The population of the French side is approximately 37,000 people and the island's main source of income is tourism. Seen on the first postcard is a beautiful beach view of the island. On the second card, we see a big airplane landing at Princess Juliana Airport. Due to the nature of the airport's runway, planes have to make a low approach over Maho Beach, which has become a popular attraction for aviation enthusiasts and tourists alike. Thanks Sherona!

Today I got a beautiful card from France! The card shows multiple scenes from the region called Pays Basque. It is located only 30 minutes away from Spain! A nice stamp featuring the world championships of Savate, also known as French kickboxing was used. It is a traditional French martial art which combines Western boxing with kicking. Postcrossing Meet-up Card from France!

Today I got a nice Postcrossing Meet-up card from the Paris Meet-up! It was held in Paris, France's capital city, on November 9, 2013. The card shows a view of the Arc de Triomphe, one of the city's most notable landmarks. Used was a nice stamp featuring a emergency medical team with a special Paris postmark. Thanks Stéphanie!

Also seen on the card are some scenes from its grounds. It is also used to house foreign delegates. A nice new stamp featuring a view of Sri Lanka was used! Thanks Nadia!
