Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows a winter shot of St. George's Church. The church is located in Drohobych and is one of the oldest timber churches of Galicia. The church was first built in the early 1500's and was renovated in the 17th century. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The postcard is an official Postcrossing card, UA-1200156. Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows a winter scene in the country. The country has a temperate continental climate throughout most of the country. The southern areas have a more subtropical climate. Some regions have significantly more precipitation than others and winters are colder inland. Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows a nice view of the city of Dnipropetrovsk. Dnipropetrovsk is the country's fourth largest city and is located on the banks of the Dnieper River. It is a major industrial center and is also the main city of Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Its population is about 1,000,000 people and it occupies an area of about 405 square kilometres. The card is an official Postcrossing card, UA-1184910. Thanks Victor!

Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows multiple views of the city of Zhytomyr. Zhytomyr is a city in the northern part of the country with a population of about 270,000 people. The city is a major transportation hub for many major Ukrainian and European cities like Kiev, Minsk, and Warsaw. It occupies an area of about 65 square kilometres and has the biggest Polish population in the country. The card is an official Postcrossing card, UA-1149356. Thanks Alexandr!

Cover & Stamps from Ukraine!

Today I got a great cover and stamps from Ukraine! The cover had some nice stamps issued in 2012, some of which commemorate the film Man With a Movie Camera, which was a critically acclaimed  experimental film released in 1929. Included inside was a stamp issued in 2013 commemorating 1,025 years of the baptism of Kyivan Rus. This stamp was also jointly issued by Russia and Belarus. Lastly, a beautiful stamp booklet featuring Ukraine's 2009 Europa release was included! The two stamps feature the astronomer Galileo Galilei to commemorate the 400th anniversary of his pioneering use of the telescope. Thanks Anna!

Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows a dramatic view of the Crimean Mountains. The Crimean Mountains is a range of mountains along the coast of Crimea. It is divided into three subranges with the Main Range as the biggest one. Its highest peak is the Roman-Kosh in the Babugan Yayla, which stands at 1,545 metres. On the card we see the Ai-Petri peak, which stands at 1,234 metres. The oldest anatomically modern humans were fond in a cave in the range and they have been dated to 32,000 years. Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard features a tram in Ukraine. Trams are a popular form of public transport in Ukrainian towns and cities. The trams in Kiev were actually the first electric tramway in the former Russian Empire and the third in Europe. 523 tram cars use almost 140 kilometres of tracks in Kiev. Nice ship stamps were used! Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard features an interesting view in the province of Chernivtsi in Ukraine. It is interesting because the blue sky and the yellow field resemble the Ukrainian national flag. Chernivtsi Oblast is a region bordering Romania and Moldova. It covers an area of about 8,100 square kilometres and has a population of almost 1,000,000 people. It is the smallest province in Ukraine, covering only about 1% of the country's territory. Chain Postcard from Singapore, Russia, & Ukraine!

Today I got my Christmas Chain Postcard! This postcard travelled to Singapore, Russia, & Ukraine! To start the chain, I used the most recent Philippine Christmas stamps. Great 2011 and 2013 stamps from Ukraine were used while some playful 2012 Singapore stamps were also used. Both 2006 and 2011 Christmas stamps from Russia were used. The card shows two traditional decorations in Philippine Christmases - the belen or nativity scene and the parol, star-shaped lanterns. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows multiple views of a city named Sviatohirsk or Svyatogorsk. Svyatogorsk is a city in Donetsk Oblast and is a part of the Sloviansk municpality. It is a small city with a population of only 5,000 people and it is situated near the Seversky Donets river. Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows an aerial panoramic view of downtown Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine. In the middle we see Saint Sophia's Cathedral, also known as the Holy Sophia Cathedral. It is one of the city's foremost landmarks and is recognized for its architecture. It is an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral founded in the 11th century and it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks Yulia!

Postcard from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows the Monument to the Scuttled Ships, which is located by Marine Boulevard in Sevastopol. The monument is dedicated to ships scuttled during the siege of Sevastopol in the Crimean War, which took place in 1854 to 1855. Sevastopol is a city on the Black Sea in the Crimean Peninsula. Cover, Postcard, & Magnet from Ukraine!

Today I got a nice cover with a postcard and a magnet from Ukraine! The postcard shows  Zaporozhian Cossacks in their traditional native garb. The Zaporozhian Cossacks inhabited the Wild Fields in Central Ukraine. Their history has been a source of pride for modern Ukraine and their culture is slowly being adopted officially. The magnet shows a view of the city of Zaporizhia, which is in southeastern Ukraine. The city is situated by the Dnieper river and is the sixth largest city in Ukraine. Thanks Svitlana!

Today I got a beautiful postcard from Ukraine! The postcard shows the sunrise in Kiev, the country's capital city. Kiev, also the largest city in Ukraine, has a population of about 2,800,000 people. It is Europe's eighth largest city. The name of Kiev supposedly comes from Kyi, one of its four legendary founders. The city has been an important center of Eastern Europe throughout history. Today I got a nice postcard from Ukraine! The card shows a night view of Paton Bridge, which is located in the city of Kiev, the country's capital. It crosses the Dnieper River and is Kiev's longest bridge. It is named after its constructor and was opened in 1953. Nice colorful stamps were used! Thanks Irina!
