Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows a beautiful view of Patteriol. Patteriol is a mountain located in the Verwall Alps in the state of Tyrol in Austria. Its main summit is a little over 3,000 metres tall and it is sometimes called the "Matterhorn of Verwall" due to its similarity to that famous mountain. It was first climbed in the second half of the 19th century and it currently takes about four to five hours to climb. The card is an official Postcrossing card, DE-3690584. Thanks Julia!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows views of the popular city of Salzburg in Austria. One of the views shows St. Gilgen, which is a small village. It is located by the Wolfgangsee and it covers almost 100 square kilometres. It has a population of 3,800 and was first mentioned in historical documents in the late 19th century. It is a popular tourist destination and is where most tour boats come from. The card was sent by my dad who visited Salzburg. Thanks Dad!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows multiple views of the beautiful city of Salzburg, where the film The Sound of Music was made. We see the Collegiate Church of St Michael, Mondsee, where one of the scenes took place. The monastery church was once part of Mondsee Abbey. The Abbey was founded in the mid 8th century by the Duke of Bavaria. The card was sent by my dad who visited Salzburg. Thanks Dad!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a cool postcard from Austria! The postcard shows the scenes and sights of the Salzburg Panorama Tour, which features The Sound of Music. The postcard is given while on the tour. Among the different scenes, we see the Nonnberg Abbey. The abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Salzburg. It was founded in 714 by Saint Rupert of Salzburg and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was made with the help of the Duke of Bavaria and is the oldest religious house for women in the German-speaking world. The card was sent by my dad who went on the tour. Thanks Dad!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a beautiful panoramic postcard from Austria! The postcard shows multiple views of the city of Salzburg, where the popular composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. On the upper left part of the card, we see the actual birthplace of Mozart, which is now a museum. The building, located at No. 9 Getreidegasse, was where the Mozart family resided from 1747 to 1773. Mozart was the seventh child of Leopold Mozart, an accomplished musician. Numerous items are on exhibit, including some of Mozart's first instruments. The card was sent by my dad who visited Salzburg. Thanks Dad!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a cool postcard from Austria! The postcard shows multiple scenes in Salzburg, where the popular film The Sound of Music was shot in. The film was released in 1965 and was directed by Robert Wise. The iconic musical film included Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The film was highly acclaimed, winning the Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The equally popular soundtrack was also nominated for the Grammy Awards. The film was primarily based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The card was sent by my dad who visited Salzburg. Thanks Dad!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows multiple views of the Schönbrunn Palace, which is located in Vienna. We see the front facade of the palace, the Gloriette in the gardens, and the luxurious interior rooms. Today the palace receives about 2.6 million visitors annually and classical concerts are held regularly throughout the palace. The card was sent by my dad who was on vacation there. Thanks Dad!

Today I got a great panoramic postcard from Austria! The postcard shows a beautiful panoramic view of Schönbrunn Palace. It is a big 1,441-room palace located in the country's capital city of Vienna. On the card, we see the main entrance at the front and the structure called Gloriette in the background. It is the apex of a large sculptured garden located behind the palace. The palace is one of the country's most important landmarks and is a major tourist destination. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The card was sent by my dad, who was on vacation there. Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows multiple views and scenes in Maria Waldrast, which is located in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is a monastery and is a popular pilgrimage site. It is located in the Mühlbachl valley, where several small chapels also reside. The inn of the monastery is a popular starting point for hikes in the surrounding mountain area and for winter sports. The monastery is located 1683 metres above sea level and is one of the highest in Europe. The card was sent by Matty from Italy who went there on a pilgrimage. Interesting stamps were used. Thanks Matty!

Cover from the United Nations!

Today I got a nice cover from the United Nations! The cover was sent from the United Nations Office at Vienna using UN postage in Euro denominations. Stamps commemorating Schloss Belvedere and the International Day of Jazz were used. The UN Office at Vienna is one of four major UN offices and was established in 1980. It is located in the Vienna International Centre in the capital city of Austria. Thanks Marco!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria!  The postcard features the church of the small village of Großgmain. Großgmain is a village located near the border with Bavaria and is within the state of Salzburg in Austria. It covers an area of 23 square kilometres and has a population of about 2,500 people. Used were some nice stamps featuring pastries! Thanks Sarah!

Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The postcard shows a nice view of the Wiener Riesenrad, also known as the Viennese Giant Wheel, which is located in Vienna, the country's capital city. The Ferris wheel is 64.75 metres tall. It is located by the entrance of the Prater amusement park and is one of the city's most iconic and most visited landmarks. It was constructed in 1897. Today I got a cool postcard from Austria! The postcard features portraits of four of Austria's foremost composers. Shown in clockwise direction are Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Johann Strauß. All four have composed multiple timeless pieces of music each. Postcard from Austria!

Today I got a nice postcard from Austria! The card shows a nice view of Schönbrunn Palace, which is located in the country's capital city, Vienna. The Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted as a remarkable Baroque ensemble. It served as the residence of the powerful Habsburg monarchs from the 18th century until the creation of the Austrian Republic. It is also where the world's oldest zoo is. The card was sent by Rafal from Germany who was on vacation in Vienna. Thanks Rafal!

Today I got a nice card from Austria! The card shows a view of the Hofburg Palace, which is located in Vienna, the country's capital. It once served as the winter residence of the powerful Habsburg dynasty and it is currently the official residence of the President of Austria. Today I got a beautiful card from Austria! The card shows a nice view of Lake Gosausee, which is located at the foot of Mt. Dachstein. Despite this, the lake is actually situated 933 meters above sea-level in the Austrian Alps. Thanks Sarah!
