Postcard from Australia!
Today I got a great postcard from Australia! The card shows Aboriginal Australians playing the didgeridoo, an instrument made of a branch hollowed out by termites. The term aborigines was used by the British to identify any existing inhabitants of Australia when they arrived. However, there are more than 400 different distinct groups with diverse cultures and languages. Most of these people currently reside in the country's northern region. The card is an official Postcrossing card, AU-382166. Thanks Val!

Postcard from Australia!
Today I got a nice postcard from Australia! The postcard features an aerial view and description of the Three Sisters formations in the Blue Mountains of Australia. The formation is the most visited tourist destination in the Blue Mountains. We see a small bridge on the left portion of the formation, which leads to the Giant's Staircase. This path leads to the base below. The blue haze of the mountains comes from the tiny oil droplets in the air, which act on the sun's rays to give off the blue color. These droplets evaporate from the eucalyptus leaves below. Nice dog stamps were used! Thanks Don!

Postcard from Australia!
Today I got a beautiful postcard from Australia! The postcard features a great view of Hanging Rock, which is located within the Blue Mountains. Sandstone cliff formations are scattered all throughout the landscape. The Blue Mountains played a part in Australia's history because it served as a barrier to expansion for the first European settlers in what is now known as Sydney. The Blue Mountains blocked the way to the much needed additional farmland and they were first crossed by Europeans in 1813. This event is still commemorated up to this day. Nice transportation stamps were used! Thanks Don!

Today I got a beautiful maxicard from Australia! The card features the stamp commemorating the First Fleet Arrival on January 1788. After eight weeks at sea, the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay. Seeing how unsuitable the area was for settlement, they went to Port Jackson, where they then anchored. The British flag was raised on its shore and a toast was made to the King. On this day, the colony of New South Wales was founded, effectively creating the Australian nation. Australia Day is celebrated on the anniversary of this ceremony. On the stamp and card, we see marines being ferried to the shore from the Supply. Thanks Christy!
