Postcard from Turkey!

Today I got a beautiful postcard from Turkey! The postcard shows multiple views of the cities of Side and Antalya. Side is an ancient Greek city that lies on a small peninsula on the Pamphylian coast. It came under Greek occupation when Alexander the Great conquered it in 333 BC. Many remarkable ruins still remain, including that of the Temple of Apollo, which we see on the card. Antalya is Turkey's largest sea resort and it is located on the Mediterranean coast. It has a population of almost 1,000,000 people and it is the third most visited city in the world by number of international arrivals. next to London and Paris. The card was sent by Olivia from Germany who was on vacation there. Thanks Olivia!

Today I got a nice postcard from Turkey! The postcard features a painting by Peder Mørk Mønsted, a Danish realist painter. He lived from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries and was educated at the Academy of Copenhagen. He is most famous for his landscape paintings. This postcard features a painting of a rural house with a garden and chickens. The postcard was published by a Turkish postcard company. The postcard is an official Postcrossing card, TR-187235. Postcard from Turkey!

Today I got a nice postcard from Turkey! The postcard shows the interiors of the House of the Virgin Mary, which is located on Mt. Korsessos. It is both a Catholic and Muslim shrine and was discovered in the 19th century. Many Catholic pilgrims come to the shrine and many papal visits to the shrine have also been conducted. It is believed that Mary was taken here by St. John before her Assumption. Thanks Bahadir!

Today I got a nice postcard from Turkey! The card features an aerial view of Troy, the historic and legendary city in Turkey. With 4,000 years of history, it is arguably one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. It was first excavated in 1870 by Heinrich Schliemann. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is most known for the Siege of Troy by the Spartans and Achaeans, which was immortalized in Homer's Iliad. Thanks Onder!

Today I got a great card from Turkey! The card shows a nice night view of the Sultanahmet Mosque, which is located in Istanbul. It is also known as the Blue Mosque because of the blue tiles in its interior. It was built during the reign of Ahmed I. The historic areas of Istanbul were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Thanks Onder! 

Postcard from Turkey!

Today I got a great card from Turkey! The card shows a nice view of Hagia Sophia, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in 537 and was originally a Greek Orthodox patriarchal basilica until it became an imperial mosque in 1453 due to the invasion of the Ottoman Turks. It then inspired the design of many mosques. In 1931 it was secularized and turned into a museum. Thanks Ezgi!
