Today I got a great postcard from the USA! The postcard showcases the Burton Memorial Tower and Baird Carillon in the University of Michigan. The carillon set was donated by Charles Baird in 1935. With 55 bells weighing anywhere from 12 pounds to 12 tons, the set is the third heaviest musical instrument in the world. The University of Michigan is a public research university in Ann Arbor and was founded in 1817. It currently has 43,000 students and almost 7,000 academic staff. It is well known for research and has a research budget of about $1 billion, one of the largest among American universities. It is a founding member of the Association of American Universities and is considered to be one of the Public Ivies. Thanks Nicole!
