The post office is located on a recently renovated space at the JP Tower and it is right next to Tokyo Station. Its main windows are open for 10 hours every day of the year and a postage dispensing machine is available at all times. The Japan Post Bank is also headquartered here. Thanks Tomoko!

Postcard from Taiwan!

Today I got a cool shaped postcard from Taiwan! The postcard, which was shaped like the Taipei 101 building, features illustrations of popular Taiwanese market food. Taiwanese cuisine's main influence is south Chinese cuisine due to its proximity. However,  it is also partly influenced by Japanese cuisine due to the Japanese occupation. Interestingly, beef is not a common ingredient in Taiwanese cuisine and many of the elderly refuse to eat it. Thanks Chi!

Postcard from the Netherlands!

Today I got a beautiful shaped card from the Netherlands! The postcard is intricately shaped to mimic the upper parts of common buildings in the city. The card shows a view of Singel, a canal in the city of Amsterdam, the country's capital city. Singel once served as the city's moat until the city expanded beyond it. It is one of the city's more popular canals and it also has a floating flower market. Amsterdam has a population of around 800,000 people. Nice stamps were used! Thanks Amy!

Postcard from Japan!

Today I got a great Gotochi postcard from Japan! Gotochi postcards are issued by the Japanese Postal System and each card is supposed to represent a certain region through a symbol or icon. Several cards are released for each region and they are highly sought after by postcard collectors. Gotochi cards are interesting because they are all uniquely shaped and nicely designed. This particular card represents Niigata, a city in Niigata Prefecture and shows buckwheat. Thanks Sayo!
